The Code for Sustainable Homes
The Code for Sustainable Homes is an assessment methodology for measuring the home and utilities as a whole. The categories assessed to measure sustainability include,
- Energy / CO2 - Assessed through SAP / Part L assessment
- Water
- Materials
- Surface water run-off
- Waste
- Pollution
- Health and well-being
- Management
- Ecology
To reach the levels in the code for sustainable homes, credits and certain values must be achieved in each category.
For category 1 (SAP) the following percentage reductions must be found against the standard pass rate TER. In reaching these targets, EPCs are also indirectly increased in value.
For new building buildings built after October 2010 (SAP 2009)
| Code Level | Percentage reduction over the pass rate (TER - SAP 2009) |
| 1 | 0% |
| 2 | 0% |
| 3 | 0% |
| 4 | 25% |
| 5 | 100% |
| 6 | 100% |
For new building buildings built before October 2010 (SAP 2005)
| Code Level | Percentage reduction over the pass rate (TER -SAP 2005) |
| 1 | 10% |
| 2 | 18% |
| 3 | 25% |
| 4 | 44% |
| 5 | 100% |
